1. The largest milk producer is the humpback whale. The humpback whale makes 1000 pounds of milk per day. It consists of 42% fat and twice the amount of protein of most mammals’ milk, which gives it the consistency of toothpaste.

2. The word “pumpkin” showed up for the first time in the fairy tale Cinderella. A French explorer in 1584 first called them “gros melons,” which was translated into English as “pompions,” according to History. It wasn’t until the 17th century that they were first referred to as pumpkins.

3. Avocados need love, too. Avocado trees do not self-pollinate; they need another avocado tree close by to bear fruit. The avocado is an Aztec symbol of love and fertility, and they also grow in pairs on trees.

6. Potato chips were nearly a casualty of World War II. When the United States entered World War II, potato chips were declared a “nonessential food” that had to halt production immediately. Manufacturers balked at the idea, and protests convinced the War Production Board to back down. Thanks to these potato chip-loving patriots, potato chips sold better during and after the war than they ever had before.
